About the role

Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company offering investing, savings, and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors, as well as financial wellness solutions like a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses. Our mission is to empower people to build wealth with confidence and ease. We are headquartered in NYC and offer hybrid roles (four days/week in-office, no required office days during summer and winter holidays).

Responsibilities

  • Create compelling and impactful growth experiences for Betterment at Work and Betterment Advisor Solutions prospective customers.
  • Own all aspects of design for key web-driven acquisition flows, funnels, and tools that drive growth, balancing business goals and user needs.
  • Contribute to our design system, ensuring everything we create is accessible, cohesive, and aligned with our brand.
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, brand designers, content strategists, product design, marketing, and others, working closely in cross-disciplinary teams across business-to-business and consumer-facing product areas.
  • Identify new opportunities, propose A/B tests, and stay current with design, industry, and competitor trends.
  • Leverage AI tools across your design workflow, using them to sharpen problem framing, accelerate exploration, and prototype ideas faster—bringing judgment to know when and how to apply them effectively, and share learnings with the broader team.
  • Invest in your craft as part of a talented, supportive design team that values open feedback and works toward a unified customer experience across all touchpoints.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience as a product designer (previous titles may have been different).
  • A portfolio of extraordinary product design work that demonstrates a strong visual design foundation, positive business impact, and experience shipping designs to real people, across web and mobile.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Strong collaborative skills with experience working through lots of cross-functional feedback.
  • Experience working in a data-informed test and learn environment.
  • Curiosity about and experience with AI tools in your design process, and a desire to help the team develop shared practices as the space evolves.
  • The ability to identify user needs and pain points through research, usability testing, and data analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with tight timelines.
  • A strategic thinker with a big-picture view of how design drives product and business goals.
  • Experience working within established accessible design systems and evolving when appropriate.
