About the role

As a Product Designer for Nextdoor's Consumer Product organization, you'll take full, dedicated ownership of key product areas — from production design through launch. You'll drive our design vision and work alongside product managers, engineers, and researchers to shape experiences that transform how neighbors connect with each other, their neighborhood, and local businesses. Deeply human-centered and mission-driven, you'll create digital experiences that strengthen real-world connections and empower neighbors and businesses to build stronger communities.

At Nextdoor, we operate in an AI-first environment and expect every team member to actively use AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Glean) as part of their workflow to challenge thinking and take ownership of AI-assisted outputs. We offer a hybrid employment model, blending in-office presence and remote work for employees near our offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, New York, and London.

Responsibilities

  • Own production design end-to-end for your product area across iOS, Android, mobile web, and desktop web.
  • Set up a system to track design progress and status against the team's roadmap.
  • Serve as the go-to design representative in planning meetings and daily check-ins, making fast design decisions when needed.
  • Apply Nextdoor's design-system components correctly and determine when a custom, one-off solution is appropriate.
  • Hand off clear, detailed specs to engineering and test on real devices before launch.
  • Participate in in-person Nextdoor events such as trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and team-building exercises.
  • Build in-person relationships with team members and contribute to Nextdoor's company culture.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in user experience and product design.
  • Strong production design execution, with the ability to take a feature from direction to shippable states across multiple platforms.
  • An eye for critical details — contrast, enlarged text, crop, and platform-specific behavior.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to help the team navigate ambiguity and set vision and strategy.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted design tooling and clarity on where it helps (e.g., spec drafts, coverage tracking) versus where your judgment is required.
  • Deep empathy for customer needs and insights, along with an intuitive grasp of the business problems we’re solving.
  • Comfort working across the product development spectrum: strategy, ideation, concept work, pixel-level details, and front-end development.
  • Fluency with both mobile and responsive web design principles and best practices.

Please include a portfolio link along with your resume.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation with a starting salary range of $175,000 - $185,000 annually (or higher based on proficiency level), adjusted for geographic location.
  • Meaningful equity grant with quarterly vesting (first vest within 3 months of start date).
  • Choice of health plans, including a 100% covered employee-only plan option.
  • OneMedical membership for concierge care.
