Product Design Lead

We are seeking a Product Design Lead to join our Global Payments and Trading Digital Channels Team in New York, NY.

About the role

This role requires a highly skilled designer who excels in collaboration, design execution, and the ability to drive impactful user experiences. The Product Design Lead will lead the strategy and design of one of our most critical financial products.

Responsibilities

• User-Centered Design – Lead with a user-first approach, ensuring all design choices address user needs, behaviors, and insights from research. Drive a seamless and intuitive product experience by deeply understanding our users.
• Journey Mapping – Map and analyze end-to-end user journeys across customers, operations, servicing teams, and systems to identify pain points, key moments, and opportunities for improvement. Use journey maps to align teams on a shared vision of user needs, ensuring a cohesive and supportive experience at each stage.
• Interaction and UI Design – Design complex web interfaces and workflows, creating products that are both highly functional and visually engaging. Develop intuitive layouts, navigation patterns, and interaction models for intricate systems. Thoughtfully use animation and micro-interactions to guide users, making complex tasks more approachable and enhancing the overall product experience.
• AI-Enabled Product Design – Apply AI throughout the product design process to accelerate research synthesis, exploration, prototyping, testing, and design iteration while maintaining strong design judgment and appropriate human oversight. Design AI-enabled products and workflows, including simplifying complex tasks, augmenting user decision-making, and creating intelligent and adaptive experiences. Address challenges of AI in regulated environments, such as transparency, explainability, data sensitivity, trust, controls, and responsible human-in-the-loop design.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to align design efforts with business goals, transforming complex requirements into clear, functional design solutions that respect technical constraints.
• Design System Knowledge – Contribute to a global design system that ensures visual consistency across interfaces. Develop workflow patterns and components that can be reused by other teams.
• Complex Systems Knowledge – Distill intricate requirements into clear design solutions that facilitate user understanding and interaction.
• Effective Communication and Storytelling – Articulate design concepts and rationale to diverse stakeholders, making complex ideas accessible. Use storytelling to engage others in the product vision, fostering alignment and enthusiasm.
• Mentorship and Leadership – Guide junior designers, provide constructive feedback, and elevate team standards. Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the team.

Requirements

• Advanced skills in tools such as Figma and Miro to create high-fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and mockups that clearly communicate interaction models and UI specifications.
• A portfolio is required to be considered for this position. It should demonstrate some or most of the expertise described above and serve as a visual indicator of your qualifications. A portfolio could include a Figma link that’s open to view access.
• Typically, candidates at this level have 10-12 years of experience and previous experience in regulated spaces like finance, health, or insurance.

Pay

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package. The expected base salary for this position can vary depending on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base salary is part of a total rewards package, which may include eligibility for an annual discretionary incentive award.
