Product Design Intern (UI/UX)

About usHow you communicate shapes the opportunities you get, the relationships you build, and whether your ideas are heard. Yet most people get very little practical feedback on how to improve. Wellspoken makes communication coaching something anyone can practice in everyday life, with personalized feedback and a clear path to getting better. Hundreds of thousands of people already use Wellspoken. We’re looking for a Product Design Intern to help shape what comes next: a consumer app that makes practicing communication feel approachable, engaging, and rewarding. You’ll work directly with our founders to turn complex feedback into intuitive experiences, with thoughtful visual design, interaction, and motion. Ownership from idea to launchYou'll own features from early ideas and user flows through polished screens and interactions. You'll have room to propose improvements, explore different directions, and make product decisions with the team. We value people who notice what could be better and take initiative to move it forward. Learn by building and shippingYou'll get hands-on feedback from our founders on visual design, interaction details, and product thinking. You'll learn how to turn a prototype into a shipped feature, then improve it based on how people actually use it. If you want to grow into design engineering, we'll coach you through implementing your designs. You don't need engineering experience to join. You’ll deepen your craft in consumer UI, interaction design, and motion, learning how transitions, microinteractions, and animation make an app feel responsive and delightful. There’s room to explore tools like Rive and Lottie and learn how those details become part of a production app. What we're looking for• A portfolio showing thoughtful product design and strong visual craft, especially consumer or mobile interfaces.• Care for typography, spacing, hierarchy, and the small interactions that make an app feel good to use.• Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to improve your work through feedback. The opportunity• Competitive hourly pay.• Remote work with flexible scheduling around classes and exams.• At least 30 hours per week on average. We prefer someone interested in a full-time commitment, with flexibility in how those hours are scheduled.• Direct collaboration with the founders, meaningful responsibility, and support to grow as a designer and builder. Wellspoken is based in Virginia, backed by VIPC, and part of the StartupVA incubator. This internship is open to current undergraduates at Virginia colleges or universities. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
