About the role
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer with Medium Voltage Switchgear and/or Medium Voltage Transformer experience for its Electrical Products and Services team. The Electrical Products and Services Team is a global engineering team responsible for designing and innovating electrical distribution products and systems used in AWS data centers.
Responsibilities
- Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
- Lead new product design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS datacenters with primary focus on MV switchgear and transformers as well as connecting dependencies with LV switchgear and power distribution.
- Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets taking into account development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing, and specialized tooling requirements.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
- Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC and federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
- Validate design through prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis through each step and updating design and documentation.
- Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
- Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for the new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
- Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.
Requirements
- 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience.
- 5+ years of commissioning experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer License.
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 annually.
