About the role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is hiring a Product Design Electrical Engineer with Medium Voltage Switchgear and/or Medium Voltage Transformer experience for its Electrical Products and Services team. The Electrical Products and Services Team is a global engineering team responsible for designing and continuously innovating products used within AWS's rapidly expanding data center footprint. The team focuses on designing and developing resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution products and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal partner teams to solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design.
  • Lead new product design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment for AWS data centers with a primary focus on MV switchgear and transformers, as well as connecting dependencies with LV switchgear and power distribution.
  • Develop Capex and Opex spending budgets considering development costs with vendors, prototyping needs, testing, and specialized tooling requirements.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring tier 2-3 supply chain resiliency.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes across different countries through appropriate levels of testing.
  • Validate design through prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds, conducting DFx and value engineering analysis at each step and updating design and documentation.
  • Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical products.
  • Ability to provide support for manufacturing activities for new products on concurrent projects in multiple geographical locations.
  • Be a leader within the product development team as well as within internal and external teams that support the data center.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
  • 5+ years of commissioning experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities.
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Experience in commissioning.
  • Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer License.
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $116,800.00 - $160,000.00 USD annually.
