product application engineer
About the role
Leverage your background in hardware, software, systems, and technical applications engineering to provide support to Tier 1 customers designing products with Broadcom's high-speed interconnect PHYs. Become an expert in the architecture of Broadcom's 100/400/800/1600/3200 Gigabit PHYs to sustain market leadership. Interface with customers and Field Applications Engineers to support pre-sales activity and ensure successful product launches, securing design wins and assisting customers in bringing products to market rapidly.
Responsibilities
- Support architecture and low-level hardware questions and issues
- Provide pre-sales and post-sales support via email, phone, and customer visits
- Create and maintain documentation
- Contribute to product definition and roadmap
- Analyze customer architecture and requirements
- Debug complex issues and problems
- Assist with board debugging and bring-up
- Perform schematic and layout design reviews
- Train customers and Field Applications Engineers
Work directly with customers and internal teams, including Hardware and Software Engineering, Architecture, Field Applications Engineering, Operations, Sales, Marketing, and senior management. Some travel to customer premises is required.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or post-graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
- Minimum of 8 to 15+ years of relevant experience with a strong track record of success
- Experience in applications engineering and direct customer interaction
- Project or time management skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
- Ability to explain and train others on complex technology
- Strong debugging skills for complicated problems or bugs
- Experience with hardware/software/firmware bring-up
- Strong working knowledge of high-speed (100Gbps+) PHY and SerDes
- Experience with Ethernet systems and standards (preferred)
- Experience with 100Gbps/200Gbps/400Gbps optical systems and standards (preferred)
- OTN experience (a plus)
- Architecture, programming, or support of complex System on a Chip devices (a plus)
- Register-level programming of complex devices
- Practical knowledge of C, C++, and Visual Basic for modifying/creating simple functions/scripts
- Hardware, high-speed SerDes, or system (board) experience (a plus)
- Experience with high-speed signal integrity issues (a plus)
- Experience with optical components and testers (a plus)
- Experience with PAM4 (a plus)
- Ability to review PCB layout and schematic
- Experience using Ethernet traffic generators, high-speed scopes, jitter analyzers, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and OTN testers (a plus)

Pay
Annual base salary range: USD 143,800.00 to USD 230,000.00. Eligible for a discretionary annual bonus and equity awards, including a competitive new hire equity grant.
