SUNY Plattsburgh is seeking applicants for a SUNY Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG+) Postdoctoral Fellowship. We are seeking to make a cluster hire of three Fellows with expertise and scholarship in any area of indigenous studies. An appointment to the most appropriate academic department in any of our three Schools: Arts and Sciences; Education, Health and Human Services; Business and Economics is possible. It is hoped that the three Fellows will work together, and with existing faculty, to create multidisciplinary and online curricula in indigenous studies. Areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to: indigenous studies, cultures and languages, Native American or First Nations History, rural and public health affecting indigenous populations of North America, economic development on tribal lands, and native and indigenous ecologies and land and water resource management. Scholarship specific to the indigenous peoples of the region of what is today New York State’s North Country and Canada’s Province of Québec are also of interest. In addition to a department home, affiliation is possible, if applicable, with one or more of our academic centers of excellence, which include: SUNY Plattsburgh's Lake Champlain Research Institute, Center for Earth and Environmental Sciences, Center for the Study of Canada, Institute for Quebec Studies, Institute for Ethics in Public Life, and Center for Neurobehavioral Health. PRODiG+ is designed with two primary goals: (1) increasing the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthening the pipeline for retention and support of those faculty. Additional information on the PRODiG+ Fellowship can be found at https://www.suny.edu/prodig-plus/fellowship/. The PRODiG+ Fellowship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. All application submissions will be assessed and evaluated in accordance with the required eligibility criteria. This Fellowship is for a 12-month appointment for two years, the fellow will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with other faculty members and receive enhanced support and mentorship. The fellowship is expected to transition into a tenure-track position (10-month obligation) after two years, provided the fellow achieves performance milestones during the fellowship. Additional SUNY Plattsburgh support for the PRODiG+ Fellow includes: a reduced teaching load for two years (e.g., two courses per semester instead of three); monthly mentoring with a tenured faculty mentor during the two-year Fellowship; new faculty orientation and onboarding workshops; resources related to the academic performance review process, faculty benefits, and other monthly presentations, enhanced fiscal support for professional development. Duties are expected to include teaching in the Fellow’s home department and, with the support of tenured faculty and the Dean, development of multidisciplinary curricula. We train students who can think critically, have mastered their discipline, can communicate effectively and are broadly educated. As SUNY Plattsburgh is an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of the importance of ensuring a welcoming and equitable environment and educational experience for all. The successful candidates may be asked to teach courses in a distance learning format and develop courses in their area(s) of expertise.
