About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Procurement, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for the procurement of goods and services, ongoing category management, and supplier performance management for designated enterprise departments.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes purchase orders and requisitions for goods and services.
  • Processes all procurement transactions in compliance with established laws, ordinances, policies, and ethical principles.
  • Collaborates with internal departments to understand procurement needs and provide support.
  • Sources and evaluates suppliers, negotiates pricing, and monitors supplier performance.
  • Assists end users with the development of specifications to ensure product and service needs are well-defined and regularly used items are accurately maintained in Procure-to-Pay (P2P) system catalogs.
  • Identifies and realizes cost-saving and cost-reduction opportunities without compromising supply assurance or quality.
  • Arranges and conducts job walks, pre-bid or proposal conferences, vendor demonstrations, and/or interviews for products or services.
  • Prepares bid summarizations and makes recommendations to upper management.
  • Resolves issues or discrepancies related to procurement processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience in a similar position required. Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements.

  • On-the-job experience negotiating supplier contracts and managing supplier performance, preferred.

  • Ability to leverage data and analytics to generate business cases in support of quantity buy decisions.
  • Excellent team interpersonal skills and ability to handle multiple sourcing assignments while providing superior service.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of the casino/gaming industry, suppliers, and cost drivers is preferred.
  • Experience with Procure-to-Pay (P2P) systems and processes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities, utilizing active listening to understand and confirm information.
  • Capability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Skills in managing tasks, projects, and resources efficiently.
  • Ability to think logically and make reasoned judgments.
  • Precision and thoroughness in completing tasks.

Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance with minimum liability limits required for regular commuting between locations.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting.
  • Work requires travel to attend meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
  • May be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Strength sufficient to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, and/or move up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (e.g., calculator, copy machine, computer printer).
  • Physical activities include balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference, and over the telephone.
  • Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference, and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity required for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, expansive reading, and visual inspection of employees, visitors, or facilities.
  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, and enter, exit, and operate a motor vehicle for travel to events, meetings, and properties.
  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including secondhand smoke. Reasonable accommodation will be made in compliance with all applicable law.
