Process Technician Apprentice (Controls)

Responsibilities

  • Assist Controls Engineers and Controls Technicians with troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Support PLC programming, troubleshooting, backups, documentation, and minor program modifications under supervision.
  • Assist with HMI development, troubleshooting, and updates.
  • Troubleshoot electrical control panels, sensors, actuators, relays, VFDs, servo systems, and safety devices.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new automation equipment and production lines.
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities on control systems and automation equipment.
  • Support industrial network troubleshooting and device communication issues.
  • Support robotics, machine vision, and automated inspection systems where applicable.
  • Document electrical and controls modifications and maintain accurate records.
  • Aid in the development of operator work instructions and training materials.
  • Support equipment reliability improvements and downtime reduction initiatives.
  • Participate in root cause analysis activities and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in Kaizen and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Utilize project management and engineering change processes when supporting controls projects.
  • Maintain compliance with all company safety standards, electrical safety requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, automation equipment, and industrial controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Exposure to PLC platforms such as Mitsubishi, Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley, or PLC Direct preferred.
  • Understanding of industrial control devices including Sensors, Relays, Safety circuits, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Servo systems.
  • Familiarity with Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) preferred.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, or similar is a plus.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Good math skills, including algebra and basic technical calculations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flexible schedules as required.
  • Ability to travel, including international travel, as required.
  • Must be willing to work off shifts in the future.
  • High School Diploma required; Technical School diploma or enrollment in an Electrical, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Automation, or related program preferred.
