About the role
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the construction, startup activities, and ongoing operations of a world-class life sciences manufacturing facility. This role reports to the EHS Manager and is based in Muskegon, MI.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management regulations and maintain relevant documentation and tools.
- Coach and support the deployment of the Danaher & Cytiva EHS framework programs at the site.
- Partner with the global EHS team for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Manage Environmental Management System for future ISO 14001 certification.
- Execute Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
- Work with R&D to define process operating envelopes and identify product families.
- Apply continuous improvement tools and processes for EHS enhancement and risk mitigation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, occupational safety and health, or related field.
- Master’s degree desirable.
- 5+ years of EHS-related experience, including extensive OSHA PSM and EPA RMP management.
- Strong facilitation skills in Process Hazard Analysis.
- Experience with PHA software, LOPA, and What-If PHA techniques.
- Understanding of process chemistry and ability to define operating envelopes.
- Previous experience in EHS Professional Certification (CIH, CSP) or Accredited Process Safety Engineer (iChemE) is a plus.
- Proficiency in environmental inspection technologies.
Qualifications
- Ability to travel 25%, including overnight and internationally.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Physical ability to lift, move, and carry equipment up to 30 lbs, walk moderate distances, stand, sit, and navigate stairs.
