Job Summary

Dennis Group’s process engineers are key in our projects of designing and building food and beverage processing facilities. Process Engineers work in every aspect of a project - controls, packaging, mechanical, electrical, building system, architecture, etc., from the conceptual stages to design completion, and throughout construction. They provide expertise in flow diagrams, alterations, constraints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), layout, install, and commissioning and start-up. Process engineers enable operational efficiencies for the food and beverage process plants of our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Developing process design basis and select unit operations
  • Develop operation specifications
  • Cook with other project disciplines (engineers, designers, architects, etc.)
  • Preparing process flow and piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Creating process flow diagrams
  • Preparing mass and energy balances
  • Sizing and specification of process and process utility equipment
  • Equipment procurement and bid evaluation
  • Aiding project management with the development of project scope, budget and schedule for all process related work
  • Helping to coordinate the schedules and work of contractors for process equipment installation
  • Preparation of preliminary sub-contractor scope of work
  • Work with clients, vendors, and suppliers to develop cost estimates and proposals
  • Writing proposals, negotiating agreements, trouble-shooting client issues
  • Updating drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections
  • Compiling information for client presentations, shop drawings review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, etc.
  • Taking on lead process engineer on specific projects and being the client main process point of contact
  • Generating requirements for equipment performance
  • Collaborating with Project Management, design team, CAD department, vendors and clients to determine needs and solutions for continuous processing/packaging systems and to develop specifications
  • Developing process and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) and creating review of layout drawings
  • Overseeing process and utility equipment installations
  • Providing onsite construction start-up and commissioning support
  • Performing onsite audits and surveys of the facilities and equipment
  • Researching processing engineering best practices
  • Supporting talent growth within our organization
  • Providing coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor

Requirements

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering
  • Required Work Experience: 4-7 years of work experience developing process designs for food and beverage processing facilities
  • Required Work Experience: 4-7 years of work experience preparing process flow diagrams and P&IDs
  • Required Work Experience: 4-7 years of work experience sizing and specification of process and process utility equipment
  • Required Work Experience: 4-7 years of work experience developing project scope, budget and process related work schedules
  • Professional Services, Process Engineering, and Food and Beverage Firms Work Experience: Work experience with professional services, process engineering, and food and beverage firms is a plus
  • Food Safety and Sanitary Design Principles: Interest in food safety and sanitary design principles and a desire learn about various food and beverage industry standards, practices, and regulations
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD: Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills with proven client interaction and experience

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
