About the Role

The Process Piping Designer will join our team in one of the following locations: Greenville, SC; Mt Laurel, NJ; Oradell, NJ; Overland Park, KS; Boise, ID; Houston, TX; or Atlanta, GA. The candidate will work on projects with our Power Generation Team and be part of a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Develop process piping models, equipment arrangements, and perform field verification on established and construction sites.
  • Perform QA responsibilities for process piping design deliverables.
  • Apply knowledge of process piping design, standards, and specifications.
  • Use 3D computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to prepare drawings with high precision on moderate- to large-scale projects.
  • Resolve design details or discrepancies in collaboration with engineers.
  • Follow standard practices for technical design assistance, ensuring proper illustration, fit, form, and function using geometric dimensioning, tolerance, and quantity calculations.
  • Ensure construction and maintainability of designs according to standard specifications and code requirements.
  • Act as a consultant on work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the sole Drafting/Design Support resource or assist in overseeing activities for projects of moderate to large scope.
  • Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team, occasionally leading tasks and staff on technical assignments.
  • Prepare multiple design versions for engineer review.
  • Monitor and oversee drafting and design plans for quality control and contract compliance; document work progress and issues.
  • Collaborate with the engineer-in-charge and other technical professionals on project phases, segments, checks, and tasks.
  • Apply analytical techniques and software to solve complex engineering issues or modify existing designs according to project standards.
  • Engage in occasional contact with client and contractor personnel to schedule and coordinate project reviews.
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and address questions from contractors and attendees.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level drafting and design support staff.
  • Stay current with the latest drafting and design support knowledge, techniques, and practices.
  • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and exercise responsible, ethical decision-making regarding company resources.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a closely related discipline or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in design/drafting with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • High-level experience with both public and private sector work.
  • 3D modeling design experience using Hexagon CADWorx or Hexagon SmartPlant.
  • Coordination model experience with Navisworks.
  • Highly proficient expertise with drafting and design support principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
  • Highly proficient expertise with relevant codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Demonstrated technical competence leading and reviewing technical computations and calculations involving geometry and mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to understand plans and specifications and make factual comparisons to appropriate standards or regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior-level team members with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Experience providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables with a high degree of complexity.
  • Strong proficiency coordinating with clients, regulatory and resource agencies, communities, and technical staff.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Extensive critical thinking and problem-solving skills to reach conclusions from research, data collation, calculations, and statistical analysis.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a variety of schedules and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Essential professional licensure/certification.
  • Organizational experience with P&IDs, orthographics, isometrics, general arrangements, and related detail drawings.
  • Power plant/refinery field experience.
  • SmartPlant3D Administrative Experience.
  • CADWorx Administrative Experience.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $115,100 - $205,040. The range reflects the company’s good-faith estimate based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity. WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation and benefits based on circumstances unrelated to protected statuses.
