About the Role

The Process Mechanical Estimator supports a team of preconstruction professionals in developing detailed internal estimates for large-scale food and beverage manufacturing projects. This role is responsible for engaging subcontractors, analyzing bids, evaluating project costs, and assisting in the compilation of comprehensive project estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-Estimate:
    • Participates in Estimate Plan meeting and aids preconstruction team as assigned
    • Participates in pre-bid meetings and site visits
  • Estimate Development:
    • Assists in compiling work products from multi-disciplinary estimators into a single complete estimate
    • Helps ensure the estimating team has the necessary information to develop the estimate; communicates needs to the estimate lead if information is lacking
    • Assists or manages RFI lists (subcontractor, internal, and/or owner), as required per proposal
    • Assists with determining project-specific tax and insurance requirements
    • Helps ensure clarifications are complete and compiled into a single document
    • May assist with owner bid form and coordinates with marketing for inclusion in the formal proposal
    • Reviews RFP requirements to help determine compliance and communicates deviations to the estimate lead
    • Leads discussion on scopes-of-work during estimate review
  • Subcontractor Management:
    • Helps build and maintain subcontractor relationships
    • Helps, manages, or participates in the development of the subcontractor/vendor bid list
    • Ensures only qualified subcontractors receive bid documents
    • Meets with local subcontractors as needed
    • Organizes and leads pre-bid meetings, if required
    • Helps develop and distribute subcontractor bid packages, including NDAs, RFP, drawings, scopes-of-work, bid forms, contract attachments, schedules, and site logistics plans
    • Coordinates with operational resources to ensure completeness of bid packages
    • Works with the Business Diversity Coordinator to develop a Small and/or WMBE business participation engagement plan for federal or public sector projects
    • Receives quotes and conducts subcontractor analysis
    • Organizes and leads scope review meetings for scopes of work estimated by the Estimator
    • Makes recommendations for subcontractor selection
  • Post Estimate:
    • Helps submit project budget to accounting
    • Participates in scope review meetings, if applicable
    • Assists in subcontractor selection
    • Assists Project Management team with compiling scope-of-work documents for contractual agreements
    • Assists with compiling lessons learned for the precon phase, if applicable
    • Participates in lessons learned meeting at project close to understand budget underruns and overruns, and communicates those lessons to the precon department
  • Database Maintenance:
    • Helps maintain preferred subcontractor database
    • Helps maintain bid forms and bid packages database
    • Helps maintain cost history database
    • Helps maintain estimating database
  • Travel if needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in accredited construction-related curriculum (e.g., Civil Engineering, Construction Management) or equivalent, or 5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry
  • Professional experience estimating process and packaging mechanical scopes for large-scale food and beverage manufacturing projects
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex mechanical and process design documents
  • Estimating software experience required; Beck Destini Estimator and FastPIPE or pipe estimating software preferred
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and internal teams
  • Experience with Design-Build and CMAR (Construction Manager at Risk) project delivery methods
  • Proven computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds
  • Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application/form information
  • Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing
