About the Role
The Process Engineering Lead is responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers and process engineering designers. This role involves delivering process engineering deliverables and services on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations, primarily in our Beaumont office.
Responsibilities
- Promote a culture of safety and apply safety-related concepts into process design.
- Review and approve all process engineering deliverables.
- Validate professional service estimates at the beginning of a project and track changes as projects progress.
- Produce professional service estimates in accordance with Hargrove standards for project deliverables, studies, estimates, change notices, and proposal efforts.
- Establish design criteria for projects, incorporating client requirements and applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
- Ensure permitting requirements are communicated to the project team.
- Support the development of process engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, and procedures.
- Maintain understanding of project scope and deliverables; initiate project change notices when deviations occur.
- Plan and organize the work of the project team for large capital projects and multiple medium/small capital projects.
- Maintain control of projects by tracking budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
- Delegate work to engineers and designers based on their technical skills and experience.
- Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment on projects.
- Produce estimate-level preliminary designs suitable for major capital projects.
- Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the most efficient engineering solutions.
- Utilize industry and department standards, procedures, and guidelines.
- Produce detailed design calculations and drawings for projects.
- Ensure project designs are optimal, efficient, and emphasize ease of construction, operability, and maintenance.
- Check calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes and specifications.
- Produce equipment and construction specifications.
- Monitor drawings in progress to ensure conformance to design calculations and specifications.
- Assist designers in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
- Review and check vendor information and other discipline information needs for process engineering input.
- Develop bid packages for procurement of equipment, materials, or services on major capital projects.
- Participate in professional society meetings to build business contacts and stay current with industry developments.
- Engage in sales activities, including pre-bid meetings, client presentations, scope review meetings, and proposal development.
- Travel as required for client presentations and project-related tasks.
- Mentor less experienced process engineers.
- Review resumes, conduct interviews, and complete interview evaluations for process engineering candidates.
- Identify and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
- 6+ years of relevant industrial experience with some time spent in a leadership role.
Skills
- Ability to train others in process safety and site safety requirements.
- Knowledge of process safety and its incorporation into process design.
- Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping.
- Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from vendor equipment data and drawings.
- Ability to accurately estimate task completion and assist in developing detailed engineering schedules and budgets.
- Experience in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing progress and quality of work.
- Complete understanding of the skills and experience required for process engineering and design functions.
- Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation.
- Ability to lead a small team on major capital projects.
- Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove services to clients.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Knowledgeable in hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet.
- Knowledgeable in process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, ProMax, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel as required for pre-bid meetings, client presentations, and project site meetings.
