About the role

CRB is a leading provider of sustainable engineering, architecture, construction, and consulting solutions to the global life sciences and food and beverage industries. The Process Engineer III leads the design for a defined scope of a project—such as an area or series of unit operations or systems—while managing the scope, budget, and schedule under their purview. Projects may range from small to medium size with complexity aligned to experience level.

The Process Engineer III communicates frequently with clients to identify design requirements, translate them into scope, and document open issues, project decisions, and actions needed to advance the design. They identify departures from contracted scope or changes in design direction and escalate them to the Discipline Lead or Project Manager as required.

Responsibilities

  • Frequently communicate and coordinate with internal and external architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, trade partners, and vendors.
  • Manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities, and direct the work of others.
  • Work independently or under the direction of the Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Develop internal and external technical networks and establish trusted relationships with clients, vendors, and other external counterparts.
  • Support activities outside the team, such as Technical Advancement, Vertical Markets, and other leadership opportunities.
  • Generate or participate in advanced deliverables and activities, including:
    • Technical Bid Tabulations
    • Vendor Package Management
    • Factory Acceptance Testing
    • Risk Assessments (HAZOP/HCCP/etc.)
    • 3D Model Review and Coordination
    • Prepare Sequence of Operations and review Functional Specifications
  • Participate in cross-discipline squad checks and discipline checks for small projects of intermediate complexity, driving overall project quality.
  • Mentor junior discipline and design staff.
  • Lead project system design programming and planning with support from Lead or Senior Engineer.
  • Support construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reporting.
  • Provide basic experience with commissioning, startup, qualification, and/or troubleshooting of process systems.

Requirements

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in a discipline-specific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operating company or design firm within a related industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of applicable industry and regulatory guidance, as well as statutory building codes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex engineering tasks with limited supervision.
  • Experience coordinating and managing design efforts within a project team, including collaboration with construction trade partners and vendors.
  • Experience supporting construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reporting.
