Process Engineer – EHR migration

W2 only, no C2C. Must be authorized to work in the US (both now and in the future). Remote in Scottsdale, Arizona.

About the role

Carex is partnering with a Healthcare industry partner to identify a Process Engineer to support a large-scale enterprise Electronic Health Record (EHR) transformation. This role will focus on documenting, analyzing, and redesigning business processes as part of an EHR migration, helping map current-state workflows to future-state processes while driving operational efficiency and standardization across cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings strong process engineering expertise and a collaborative approach to partnering with operational and technical stakeholders. Experience within healthcare organizations and familiarity with athenahealth (athenaOne) are highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead current-state and future-state process mapping activities supporting an enterprise EHR implementation.
• Conduct Value Stream Mapping (VSM) across cross-functional business and operational teams.
• Analyze existing workflows and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, standardization, and scalability.
• Design and redesign end-to-end business processes that support successful system implementation and long-term operational excellence.
• Partner with business leaders, operational teams, and IT to align process improvements with system capabilities.
• Evaluate operational performance using data, stakeholder feedback, and process analysis to recommend improvements.
• Assess the downstream impacts of process changes on operational KPIs, staffing models, and business performance.
• Facilitate discussions with stakeholders, identify key decision points, and prepare recommendations for leadership.
• Translate strategic objectives into detailed process documentation and actionable implementation plans.
• Coordinate activities across multiple workstreams to maintain project momentum and ensure timely deliverables.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, workflows, standard operating procedures, and supporting artifacts.
• Identify process risks, gaps, and dependencies, and proactively recommend solutions.
• Support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the EHR migration.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma, or comparable process improvement certification preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in process engineering, operational excellence, business process improvement, program management, or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise technology implementations, preferably EHR or other large-scale business system migrations.
• Strong expertise in Lean methodologies, Six Sigma principles, and business process redesign.
• Experience partnering with IT teams to support systems integration and operational transformation initiatives.
• Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with athenahealth (athenaOne) EHR is highly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Experience using project management and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Monday.com, Jira, or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance strategic thinking and detailed execution.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to facilitate discussions with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment while building strong working relationships across the organization.
