About the role

The Federal Group at Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Process Engineer to support their growing work in the DOE and DOD sectors. The ideal candidate should have experience with nuclear system design, energetics or explosives system design, and apply safety requirements into designs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support important projects for interesting clients
  • Create process models using commercially available programs or build custom models in Excel
  • Support business development efforts by developing engineering estimates and supporting proposal development
  • Solve difficult problems requiring adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, complete equipment sizing and specifications, and develop instrument process data and specifications
  • Develop and execute project plans from initial process studies to detailed design and EPC project execution
  • Lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment
  • Perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications
  • Travel to support projects, estimated at 25%

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 3 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master Degree in Chemical Engineering and 2 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • 5 years of process engineering experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Strong computer skills include process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead the discipline design for large projects and delegate work tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoE or DoD Security Clearance.
