The Hamilton facility, Tronox's largest titanium dioxide manufacturing plant, spans approximately 3,000 acres in Northeast Mississippi. The location offers easy access to world-class attractions, including Beale Street, Graceland, Nashville, New Orleans, and the Gulf Coast beaches, as well as premier college sporting events.

About the Role

This position is responsible for process improvements, project development, and assisting operations in meeting safety, environmental, quality, and productivity goals. The role ensures environmentally responsible plant operations in compliance with all Safety, Health, and Environmental policies. Reporting directly to the Process Engineer Lead within the Finishing Plant Operations department, the successful candidate will:

  • Support plant personnel and process improvement efforts to meet safety, quality, efficiency, and production goals.
  • Use creative problem-solving to improve safety, quality, cost, and production.
  • Gather, interpret, and analyze data to draw conclusions and make data-driven decisions, including appropriate assumptions when unknowns exist.
  • Exercise sound technical judgment in problem resolution and seek direction from supervisors when necessary.
  • Reduce process variability through control loop optimization or other process improvements.
  • Perform alarm rationalization and implementation.
  • Conduct PRV, control valve, pump, and other equipment sizing as needed.
  • Complete field process and equipment audits.
  • Conduct technical studies and experiments to determine improvements needed for plant and area goals.
  • Demonstrate clear written and oral communication skills with peers, management, and customers.
  • Partner with the maintenance team to analyze and improve equipment availability and energy consumption.
  • Supervise others as needed to achieve objectives.
  • Initiate projects, implement management of change requirements, and manage project implementation.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analysis as needed.
  • Manage all projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Advise and assist plant support and R&D personnel as needed.
  • Stay informed on new developments in quality control and process engineering through educational institutions, professional societies, journals, and texts.
  • Promote a “work-safe” culture where safety is the prerequisite to all activities.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between engineering, operations, quality, and safety teams to drive holistic improvements.
  • Leverage digital tools and automation technologies (e.g., PLCs, SCADA, MES) to enhance process control and data visibility.
  • Utilize advanced analytics (e.g., statistical process control, predictive modeling) to identify trends and proactively address issues.
  • Champion Lean Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste and improve process efficiency.
  • Support sustainability initiatives by identifying opportunities to reduce waste, emissions, and energy usage.
  • Consistently demonstrate Tronox Core Values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 4 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Exceptional human relations and communication skills.
  • Internal applicants must have an MX or above on their most recent performance evaluation and no active corrective action.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have no facial hair that interferes with the sealing surface of a respirator (e.g., beards, goatees, or excessive sideburns).
  • Occasionally ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, or ramps, and move in various positions to accomplish tasks.
  • Constant prolonged periods of remaining stationary, often standing or sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Constantly walk long distances between worksites and work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally lift or move objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
