Process Engineer

About the role

The Covington mill is North America’s largest bleached paperboard mill, operating continuously since 1899. The site features three paperboard machines producing high-quality coated bleached board for packaging (pharmaceutical, cosmetic, electronics, tobacco, and food) and commercial printing (greeting cards, lottery tickets, business cards, direct mail, large format signage). As an Entry-Level Process Engineer, you will provide technical services to monitor, investigate, evaluate, and recommend improvements for quality, quantity, and cost in paperboard production.

Your first year will be rotational, spending approximately four months in each of three departments to learn different processes. After this period, you will ideally transition to a permanent department.

Responsibilities

• Provide management with information on quality and operating parameters to assist in process control, budgeting, and trend detection.
• Participate on process improvement teams to identify problems, evaluate solutions, and implement approved changes to improve quality, cost, and throughput.
• Complete projects and development activities to prepare for operational positions as vacancies occur.
• Participate in all process engineering aspects of capital projects.
• Actively promote safety and environmental compliance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BS Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical) or Pulp and Paper Science.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel.
• Preferred: Minimum 2 years of industry experience on either the paper machine or pulp mill area, preferably in a process engineering role (can include Co-Op/Internship).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to operate in a paper mill environment: light to moderate lifting, walking, climbing, oral communication, correctable vision, and ability to work in hot, humid, and dusty conditions.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $69,375.00 – $115,625.00, depending on role, level, and location. Pay will be based on skills, experience, and education.
