Position Overview
The Process Engineer is an experienced engineering role in our semiconductor assembly and test lab. In this role, the candidate will work with the Technical Sales team to understand customer requirements and provide quotes and estimated times to complete specific projects and customer orders. The Process Engineer will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining processes for electronic components and assemblies. This role will focus on improving efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and industry compliance throughout production and testing operations. The Process Engineer will ensure lab equipment is utilized efficiently, support production technicians in operations, and identify opportunities for lab efficiency and cost improvements.
Essential Job Functions
- Act as main point of contact for Technical Sales team for RFQ, quoting, deliverables, and cycle time requirements
- Hands-on execution, including occasional equipment operation, wafer dicing, die attach, wire bond, encapsulation, lead trim and form, ball attach, singulation, and other assembly processes
- Manage lab resources to ensure high production utilization and timely completion of work orders
- Track, report, and expedite lab work orders to meet customer committed schedules
- Analyze test and inspection results to provide customers with data, results, conclusions, and suggested follow-up actions
- Establish new processes and equipment in the lab, including installation, buy-off, qualification, training, and process documentation
- Continuously improve yields, cycle times, and capabilities of assembly processes in the lab while balancing resources and project schedules
- Act as subject matter expert for the production team to keep projects and orders moving through the lab and resolving quality and technical issues
- Coverage with Quality to ensure SOPs are updated and accurate and that lab meets AS9100 and ISO9001 quality standards
- Support customer and certification audits and process reviews
- Conduct assembly lab tours and act as spokesperson for Spirit’s assembly capabilities
Requirements
- 5-7 years of experience in semiconductor device manufacturing
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in engineering, industrial engineering, chemistry, material science or related field
- Advanced degrees or technical certifications are a plus
- Specific experience with developing or implementing assembly processes or materials
- Familiarity with semiconductor reliability testing and standards
- Extensive experience with MIL-STD for EEE and Semiconductor components
- Familiarity with quality management systems (AS9100, ISO9001)
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on team building
- Ability to work independently and as a team player who thrives in a dynamic work environment
- Strong solution-focused work ethic with a high degree of flexibility supporting multiple projects of varying complexity and priority
- Experience with MS Office a plus, including strong Excel skills
- Familiarity with JD Edwards Oracle or other ERP software a plus
- Experience with automation and robotics in manufacturing a plus
