About the role
Lead a process design team in developing basic process design specifications and provide technical oversight of an engineering contractor’s deliverables during front-end design and detailed engineering phases. This role supports surface facilities projects and includes ad hoc analyses for equipment sizing and selection.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and lead junior engineers in the development of process design specifications, including:
- Heat & material balances
- Design flow plans
- Process equipment design
- Preliminary hydraulic balances
- Utility balances
- Basic process control & instrumentation
- Materials selection
- Safety facilities
- Lead and/or perform process optimization studies to identify and evaluate:
- Capital and operating cost savings opportunities
- Process configuration alternatives
- Safety facilities requirements
- Provide technical oversight of engineering contractor work during front-end engineering & design and detailed engineering to ensure alignment with project specifications, guidelines, and owner requirements
- Participate in Hazard & Operability Reviews (HAZOP) for new/modified facilities and in support of existing plant facilities
- Provide commissioning and start-up assistance for new/modified facilities, as required
- Establish organization and staffing process
Requirements
- BS degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, required
- Experience in petroleum refining / chemical process industry / with an engineering contractor serving these industries
- Capital project development experience
- Familiarity with heat and material balances, HAZOP methodologies, hydraulic analysis, and contractor oversight
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
- Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communications
