Process Engineer

Duties & Responsibilities

• Collect, analyze and use operational data to help drive process improvements.
• Identify and evaluate the feasibility of new technological developments and best practices.
• Cook up trials and lead improvement projects to enhance quality, improve yields, reduce costs and improve productivity.
• Track performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Aid in validating product specifications are aligned with operational process capability.
• Aid in the development and improvement of operational practices and SOP’s using sound engineering principles.
• Serve on committees, task forces and teams as assigned.
• Recommend solutions for application of best practices in operations inclusive of recommending, justifying, and supporting Capital Budget projects.
• Assume weekend call out responsibilities on a scheduled, rotational basis.

Qualifications

• B.S in Chemical Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science/Engineering is preferred. Other technical disciplines will be considered with relevant experience.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving skills, a passion to drive improvement, a bias for action and a highly motivated team player.
• An ability to work with both salaried and hourly operations and maintenance staff.
• An ability to learn and adapt to changing operational situations.
• An ability to work in an operating environment that includes heat, humidity, noise and lab and process chemicals.
• A confident, growth oriented professional ready to accept challenging responsibilities with a positive attitude.
• Experience with Lean principles/six sigma methods is a plus.
