About the role
Provide technical assistance to plant operations in support of process improvement, cost reduction, safety enhancement, and efficiency at Mactac's manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, SC. This includes identifying and implementing process changes to improve yields, reduce costs, improve runtime, reduce downtime, and enhance quality for all products. The role involves complex projects with considerable impact on plant performance and costs.
Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and manage process improvement projects aimed at improving operational efficiencies (waste, productivity, costs), including training on required methods and procedures.
- Troubleshoot daily production and process problems, communicate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Production teams, investigate root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Work with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to ensure consistent equipment operation, including set-up/run parameters, maintenance intervals, and material specifications.
- Develop, document, and facilitate training on support, set-up, run, and change-over procedures.
- Write, perform, analyze, and report validations to support process standardization.
- Develop project justifications, ROI analysis, and capital requests consistent with company policy.
- Lead safety initiatives, ensuring safety considerations are paramount in all operations.
- Assist Manufacturing in preparing standard operating conditions with input from operators, supervisors, and technical personnel.
- Determine need and justification for capital projects, completing and routing capital allocation forms.
- Assist Sales and Applications Development in developing customer specifications.
- Plan, execute, and document major changes to raw material processing.
- Update documentation to reflect current operational procedures.
- Assist maintenance in developing preventive maintenance (PM) procedures.
- Lead projects to implement changes for quality improvement and cost reduction.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Additional education/training in Chemistry preferred.
- Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other Continuous Improvement methodologies; certification strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with converting film, paper webs, slot die, and/or curtain coating technology preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems; JD Edwards ERP beneficial.
- Excellent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment
20% of time spent in an office environment; 80% spent walking and working in the manufacturing area. Exposure to noise, odor, and environmental conditions typical of manufacturing. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and required.
Travel: up to 5%.
