Process Engineer

About the role

Establish rubber injection molding processes during prototype and production phases to produce products that meet Engineering requirements with a robust and economic process. Responsibilities

• Adhere to Hutchinson Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, and requirements.
• Oversee all aspects of the rubber injection molding process.
• Support the production team in rubber molding process troubleshooting and day-to-day manufacturing.
• Engage in problem-solving and root cause analysis to reduce scrap and rework.
• Develop and conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to optimize process quality and throughput.
• Lead continuous improvement activities to enhance throughput, quality, and uptime.
• Track KPIs and use PDCA methodologies for improvement.
• Identify and implement best practices in rubber molding.
• Provide process training to technicians.
• Contribute to rubber mold tooling designs and provide input.
• Support the development and maintenance of standards for rubber processes and tooling.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in rubber engineering or a related technical field.
• 10 years of related experience and/or training in Rubber Process Engineering, manufacturing systems, or equivalent experience.
• Six Sigma Training (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
• Lean Manufacturing Certification.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across Engineering, Prototype, and Production groups.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic CAD software.
• Engineering-level mathematics and statistics knowledge.
• Ability to define root causes, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for issue resolution.

Physical Demands

• Frequent sitting for extended periods, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional travel for day trips.

Work Environment

• Shared office (cubicle) environment, which can be loud and distracting.
• Occasional tasks in Laboratory and Manufacturing environments requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
