About the Role

Designs, procures, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment and tooling used to produce manufactured products while supporting plant operations. Sets standards for manufacturing excellence and develops new processes and technologies. Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces with internal product design teams and/or customers to specify design criteria for extrusion and its integration with molds.
  • Signs off on product designs to ensure manufacturability.
  • Creates appropriation requests and sends equipment specifications to vendors for quotes.
  • Develops tooling specifications and obtains vendor quotes.
  • Serves as the primary contact between the plant and tool vendors.
  • Procures equipment and tooling, tracks vendor timelines, and approves equipment/tooling at vendors.
  • Assists in preparing equipment layouts.
  • Ensures proper installation and adherence to specifications for equipment and tooling, establishing optimal processing conditions.
  • Trains supervisors and operators as needed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and tooling issues during launch ramp-up and throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Oversees continuous improvement projects to refine processes related to design, equipment, and efficiency.
  • Supports new product launches by developing processes to improve capability, output, safety, and reliability.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Four-year technical degree and/or 4+ years of experience in production roll forming.
  • Strong comprehension of physics, mathematics, and material science.
  • Extensive specialized training with equipment and tooling, including Notchers, Roll Forming, Benders, Plastic Extruders, and TPV molding.
  • Experience developing and testing internal and external packaging.
  • Experience creating and maintaining engineering documents such as job breakdowns and work instructions.
  • Experience evaluating material flow and calculating production cell capacity.
  • Familiarity with the APQP process and documentation (preferred).
  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing Principles, Process Statistics, and Basic Quality Systems.
  • Ability to communicate technical processes, limitations, and their impact on product design to diverse audiences, including customers and management.
  • Collaborates effectively with all levels of the organization, from plant managers to factory floor operators.
  • High level of communication skills to explain, interpret, and recommend solutions; discretion in deciding how and what to communicate.

Work Environment

Work time is split between a standard office environment and manufacturing plant exposure. Temperature and noise levels may vary depending on external conditions. Lack of attention or carelessness may result in personal injury to self or others.
