Process Engineer AS
About the role
The Process Engineer at Steelscape is responsible for supporting safety, quality, and production of coated steel products. They lead trials, quality investigations, and substitute for the manager as needed. The role involves resolving equipment issues, improving equipment performance, investigating quality issues, and facilitating continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve equipment issues
- Perform system analysis and evaluation to determine root cause of failures using statistical methods
- Improve equipment performance
- Investigate Quality Issues (Internal and External)
- Leading efforts to troubleshoot quality and productivity issues
- Communicate with Area Manager, shift supervisors, and associates / provide as backup in Area Manager's absence
- Provide direction and leadership to the Technical Assistant in completing daily tasks and projects including monthly line yield reports and daily line run data
- Cook up production trials
- Facilitate and support self-directed work teams in reaching consensus with respect to process improvements, material dispositions, production delays, etc.
- Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
- Develop and organize training material to transfer appropriate process/production and safety knowledge to associates
- Manage raw material inventory (chemicals, line supplies)
- Assist in proper specification and choice of highest quality, lowest cost raw material commodities (i.e. Paint, & Chemicals) for utilization in production processes
- Resolve vendor supply issues
- Facilitate continuous improvement projects through team efforts, and benchmark across Bluescope businesses
- Write and champion capital projects
- Month end reporting
- Assist with all safety issues related to production and ensure that safety goals are achieved
- Engage associates in all aspects of safety, meetings, conversations, and incident reporting
- Plan and coordinate monthly and year shut downs, ensuring both maintenance and operations complete all needed PMs
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or manufacturing related field or 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
- 5 years manufacturing experience
- 2 years in a supervisory or people management role
- 5 years of Steelscape product experience

Pay
The expected pay scale for this role is $97,500.00 - $112,700.00 annually, depending on experience, skill set, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a targeted annual bonus of 15%, as well as health and welfare benefits and a 401(k) match, in accordance with BlueScope policies.
