About the role
Process Design Engineer- The Process Design Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing process design changes that support facility operations, chemical processing, waste handling, and system integration. This role ensures process modifications maintain performance, safety, and compatibility with upstream and downstream facility interfaces. Work Location: Aiken, SC. Edgewater Technical Associates, founded in 2003, is a New Mexico‑based small business headquartered in Los Alamos, NM, with five regional offices across the United States. Edgewater provides fixed‑price construction projects, engineering, and technical services for the DOE, NRC, Canadian Commercial Nuclear Industry, and private sector contractors involved in nuclear, high‑hazard, or complex operations. Responsibilities
- Develop process calculations, design inputs, technical evaluations, and system modifications.
- Prepare and revise process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process descriptions, and equipment/process datasheets.
- Evaluate impacts of design changes on flow, pressure, temperature, chemistry, batch timing, and throughput.
- Support design changes affecting tanks, transfer systems, filtration, solvent extraction, chemical addition, and waste routing.
- Define process requirements for other engineering disciplines.
- Support hazards reviews, design reviews, test planning, and implementation activities.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Experience in process engineering or process design in industrial or chemical facilities. Knowledge of process calculations and process documentation. Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Qualifications
- Experience in radioactive waste processing, chemical separations, or hazardous process systems.
- Familiarity with batch processing and waste transfer systems.
