Process Controls Engineer
About the role
This role is part of a team dedicated to ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical control systems and safety instruments. The incumbent is responsible for designing, simulating, implementing, testing, and maintaining these systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Responsibilities
- Independently design, simulate, implement, test, and maintain control networks including associated software systems.
- Support operational optimization by developing sequences and control strategies that reduce personnel requirements and minimize material and utility consumption.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance and inspection plans for DCS/PLC control systems, ESD, Data Historian, and Alarm Management systems.
- Coordinate with I&E department for maintenance and inspections of DCS and ESD systems without disrupting operations.
- Maintain DCS & ESD system backups and cyber security tools according to policies.
- Analyze process data to identify areas for improvement and develop advanced control algorithms and control sequences.
- Support production, maintenance, ES&H, laboratory, and engineering departments by analyzing process and system data to evaluate upsets and equipment failures.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess formal knowledge and certification in process controls and safety systems, with a strong understanding of industrial communications protocols and programming languages. They must also have a broad understanding of control theory, process dynamics, and instrumentation.

- Formal knowledge and certification in process controls and safety systems.
- Understanding of network design and associated hardware/infrastructure.
- Setup, configuration, and maintenance of supporting systems like alarm management, data historian, asset management.
- Broad understanding of industrial communications protocols and programming languages.

- Expert-level knowledge in designing and implementing control systems to protect against cybersecurity threats.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including technical and non-technical stakeholders.
