Process Control Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Process Control Engineer to join our dynamic team. Your role will involve providing technical expertise and day-to-day controls and engineering support to the manufacturing facility. You will interact with operations and maintenance employees, participate in the design and modification of existing and new facilities, and support the implementation of OSI PI systems.

Responsibilities

• Promote and justify plant automation concepts and projects.
• Provide expertise to the plant in the areas of automation, DCS/PLC systems, interlock systems, data acquisition systems, and process instrumentation.
• Aid with transfers and new product introductions.
• Assist with assessing current equipment capabilities, HSE issues, capital requirements, and quality assurance capabilities.
• Support the establishment of 'in-control' processes.
• Aid in determining justification, scope definition, safety reviews, punch-list items, coordination of implementation with production schedule, startup, chemical commissioning, and performance reporting on agreed deliverables.
• Maintain accurate flow diagrams, electrical diagrams, and equipment and control specifications.
• Maintain up-to-date Interlock Matrices, SIF Testing systems, and records.
• Utilize management of change for applicable situations.
• Train production operators and supervisors on unit operations, chemistries, and batch recipe or DCS changes/enhancements in regards to product line.
• Support the plant’s quality management systems and its compliance with pertinent quality standards.
• Ensure personal safety and support the plant’s achievement of zero lost time injuries, zero recordable injuries, and zero environmental incidents.
• Participate in safety reviews for product line and associated equipment for: management of change (equipment, quality, etc.), new product introduction/technology transfer, revalidation of process hazard analysis.
• Comply with all company and plant policies, procedures, etc., including safety procedures, PPE requirements, operating procedures, etc.

Qualifications

• Minimum of BS ChE or ME preferred, other engineering disciplines considered.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in Process and Project Engineering areas.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Good computer skills and proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
• Skills with MS Access, statistical software (Minitab), or relational databases are a plus.
• Chemical industry background.
• Expertise in process instrumentation and automation.
• Familiarity with one or more plant automation systems.
• Familiarity with engineering and safety standards – i.e. OSHA PSMM.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve problems with innovative approaches to problem-solving.
• Organized, systematic, independent, and self-motivated.
• Knowledge of LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis), What-If, HAZOP, Critical Task Analysis is desirable.
• Knowledge of 6 Sigma a plus, but not required.

Benefits

Competitive salary and benefits package. The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $112,000 - 140,000 per year.
