About the role

The Process Control Engineer will serve as the technical subject matter expert for Process Control systems at Georgia-Pacific's Port Hudson mill. They will support safe, stable, and efficient mill operations by providing daily process control support, troubleshooting issues, optimizing control strategies, and implementing improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily process control support for the machine and converting area, ensuring stable, reliable, and optimized operations across all related systems
  • Work closely with mill personnel to identify opportunities, troubleshoot issues, and resolve controls-related problems
  • Optimize and support process operations through effective use of process control systems and hands-on troubleshooting of mill processes
  • Lead alarm management efforts and drive continuous improvement in control loop performance, including monitoring, tuning, and reduction of nuisance alarms
  • Partner with the maintenance organization to diagnose and resolve issues involving process equipment and control systems
  • Support the project engineering team in planning, installing, and commissioning new process equipment and associated control systems
  • Support and maintain the mill’s data historian infrastructure and assist users in leveraging historian data effectively
  • Track and analyze key metrics to verify control system performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Participate in the department’s on-call rotation to provide after-hours support

Requirements

  • Previous experience working within a Process Control team
  • Delta V and Honeywell DCS programming experience
  • Hands-on programming and hardware management experience with Industrial Process Control Systems and networks (DCS, PLCs)
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, VFD Drives and Honeywell DCS platforms
  • Experience with industrial instrumentation, including flow, level, pressure, temperature, and valve/positioning devices
  • Must have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Electrical/Control Engineering, or similar field
  • Experience supporting process control systems in pulp and paper industry
  • Experience with alarm management and rationalization practices
  • Experience with Advanced Process Control (APC) technologies, including model-based predictive control, inferential modeling, constraint control, multivariable control strategies, and other advanced optimization techniques
  • Experience with OT cybersecurity, network architecture, and industrial protocols
  • Experience in installing process control systems, including construction, checkout, and startup of new systems
