Process Automation Engineer I and II - Onsite - Lenexa, KS (Kansas City) - Multiple Openings

About the role

This onsite role in Lenexa, KS (Kansas City) offers the opportunity to work behind the scenes of the services we provide while interfacing with customers and gaining knowledge of Emerson’s industry-leading automation technology. You will collaborate with engineering teams, order management, inside sales, and outside sales, and rotate throughout the engineering services organization to serve a variety of industries, including chemical, power generation, refining, oil & gas, food & beverage, pulp & paper, and water.

This position provides dynamic training and development through e-learning, in-person courses, and hands-on experiences in the office and at customer sites. You will participate in customer site activities such as control system commissioning and startup, cybersecurity improvements, and system modernization. Strong on-the-job and customer service training is provided, including hands-on software training, mentorship, safety training, and opportunities to broaden business acumen as an Employee-Owner.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and design services to maximize the value of customers’ process control systems.
• Rotate throughout the engineering services organization, working with different teams to serve a range of customers.
• Assist with plant operations and optimization responsibilities.
• Handle process control design, automation system configuration, project execution, instrument specification and selection, and construction support.
• Deliver quality solutions and services using technologies such as DeltaV, DeltaV SIS, Asset Management Systems (AMS), and other Emerson solutions.
• Serve the team through technical knowledge and leadership.
• Proactively learn and apply new automation products.
• Collaborate internally and externally to impact profitability through effective partnerships.
• Perform operator and maintenance training.
• Utilize technical knowledge of products and services deployed at customer sites.
• Perform process control equipment installations and startups.
• Handle system upgrades and preventative maintenance activities.
• Interpret and update process and control system design documents.
• Develop and implement control system configuration.
• Perform engineering and design studies.
• Design and implement effective operator interfaces using DeltaV.
• Integrate PLCs, safety systems, and field devices into DeltaV.
• Perform testing, construction, and installation of designed control solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, Electronics, Industrial Technology, or an Associate degree in a similar area, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
• Three or more years of experience in manufacturing and process control operations.
• Experience reading and interpreting Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Ability to work in office or at client sites Monday through Friday from 8am–5pm, with occasional additional hours and rotating on-call support.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Outlook email, and basic computer skills.
• Dedication to safe workplace practices and ability to comply with all company and site safety regulations.
• Ability and desire to lead by example and work collaboratively with others.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record background check.
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for work travel and rent a car when requested.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 50% of the time, including overnights and weekends as needed.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in manufacturing and data center environments with shifting and extreme temperatures.
• Ability to wear PPE as appropriate for potential environmental hazards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Five or more years of experience in manufacturing and process control operations.
• Five or more years of experience with electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical schematics.
• Three or more years of experience using AUTOCAD or other computer-aided drafting software.
• Prior experience working on Emerson systems.
• Two or more years of DeltaV or PLC application and configuration experience.
• Experience programming PLC or DCS platforms such as Allen Bradley, Rockwell, Siemens, or Honeywell.
• Prior experience in valve repair, instrument services, quality control, or reliability.
• Prior experience as a project manager or leading process improvement initiatives.
• Prior experience with service expansion initiatives that impacted business results.
• Five or more years of experience reading and interpreting Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
