Location: Memphis, TN – Department of Correction, Shelby County. Two positions available.
This position requires a criminal background check and U.S. citizenship.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time professional experience in probation/parole, counseling, social work, investigative, or legal work.
- Substitution of Experience for Education: Full-time relevant professional experience (including law enforcement) may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Substitution of Graduate Course Work for Experience: Graduate credit in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, social work, or law may substitute for up to one year of the required experience (e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours = one year).
Necessary Special Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
- Must have good moral character, as determined by investigation.
- Must complete a criminal history disclosure form and agree to release all records to the appointing authority.
- Must provide fingerprints for a TBI criminal history records check.
- No felony convictions or domestic assault convictions; no dishonorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces.
- Must pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of appointment.
- Must complete all prescribed training at the Tennessee Correction Academy and any required online courses upon appointment.
- Must qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain offenders' records and reports, including narrative summaries of investigations and monthly caseload activity reports.
- Conduct searches of offender residences, vehicles, and persons as required by policy.
- Interview probationers and parolees regularly to evaluate progress and compliance with probation/parole terms.
- Perform pre-hearing and pre-release investigations; testify in court regarding offenders' backgrounds and recommended sentencing.
- Search state, local, and federal databases for offender-related incidents and additional information.
- Act as a liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement, and other agencies to support probation/parole program goals.
- Request arrest warrants for non-compliant offenders as required by policy.
- Use assessment tools to determine offenders' risk levels and frequency of needed services.
- Develop sanctions for offender noncompliance and transitional accountability plans outlining release requirements (e.g., office visits, restitution, education, employment).
- Monitor offenders to ensure compliance with release requirements.
- Handle offender complaints and grievances professionally and investigate significant incidents involving offenders or staff.
- Assist offenders in decision-making processes and foster a respectful, harmonious working environment.

Monthly: $4,057.00 – $5,078.00
Annual: $48,684.00 – $60,936.00
