Opening: 08/25/2026 12:00 AM CT – Closing: 09/07/2026 11:59 PM CT. Location: Department of Correction, Putnam County, Cookeville, TN. One position. A Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) screening and criminal background check will be conducted prior to employment.

Pay

$4,057.00 – $5,078.00 monthly ($48,684.00 – $60,936.00 annually).

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and one year of full-time professional experience in probation/parole, counseling, social work, investigative, or legal work.
  • Substitution of Experience for Education: Full-time relevant professional experience (including law enforcement) may substitute for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Substitution of Graduate Course Work for Experience: Graduate credit in social science, behavioral science, criminal justice, criminology, social work, or law may substitute for up to one year of the required experience (36 graduate quarter hours = one year).

Necessary Special Qualifications

  • Willing and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age on the date of application.
  • United States citizen.
  • Good moral character, as determined by investigation.
  • Complete a criminal history disclosure form and release all records to the appointing authority.
  • Supply fingerprints for a TBI criminal history records check.
  • No felony convictions or domestic assault convictions; no dishonorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces.
  • Pass a physical examination and psychological evaluation consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Successfully complete all prescribed training at the Tennessee Correction Academy and any online training upon appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain offenders’ records and reports, including narrative reports for the parole board and monthly caseload activity reports.
  • Conduct searches of offender residences, vehicles, and persons as required by policy.
  • Interview probationers and parolees regularly to evaluate progress and compliance with probation contracts and rehabilitation plans.
  • Conduct pre-hearing and pre-release investigations; testify in court regarding offenders’ backgrounds and recommended sentences.
  • Search state, local, and federal databases for offender-related incidents and additional information.
  • Act as liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement, and other agencies to support probation/parole program goals.
  • Request arrest warrants for non-compliant offenders as required by policy.
  • Use compiled offender information to determine appropriate treatment steps.
  • Handle offender complaints and grievances professionally and promptly.
  • Investigate significant offender and staff-related events to determine if incident reports are required.
  • Assist offenders in decision-making processes.
  • Use designated assessment tools to determine offenders’ risk levels and frequency of needed services.
  • Develop sanctions for offender noncompliance with release conditions.
  • Create transitional accountability plans outlining release requirements (e.g., office visits, restitution, education, employment).
  • Monitor offenders to ensure compliance with release requirements set by policy.
