The Morris-Sussex Vicinage Family Division is seeking a candidate with excellent oral communication, customer service, and reasoning skills. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of legal, government, and jurisprudence procedure and protocol, demonstrating technical competence and dedication to the organization’s policies and procedures.

Under the general direction of the Court Executive 2B (Family Division Manager) and the direct supervision of the team leader, the successful candidate will use organizational awareness and reasoning skills. The selected candidate will be required to work one night per week during the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Although this position is based in the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown, NJ, travel to the Sussex County Judicial Center in Newton, NJ, and other Judiciary locations may be required.

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, you will need high-speed home internet access and must install a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a case processing team to monitor and enforce conditions of court orders
  • Identify both client and customer case management needs
  • Inform client/customer about available services and coordinate those services
  • Approve continuances or adjournments in adherence to state or local division rules or practices
  • Monitor case flow and consult with judges regarding case status and issues
  • Analyze case histories and maintain data for statistics
  • Confer with team members regarding management of cases
  • Prepare cases for hearing, interview complainants, and record case notes
  • Assign cases to appropriate track and analyze/screen cases in accordance with existing laws, regulations, or professional practices
  • Collect samples or specimens to test for alcohol or substance abuse
  • Conduct consent conferences for parents, guardians, and extended family members on issues such as child support, custody, or visitation rights
  • Coordinate attorney’s availability or readiness for hearings, trials, and other court events
  • Inform litigants on procedures related to case management
  • Obtain evidence or other materials for hearings or trials
  • Prepare court orders, trial notices, or calendars
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Open to Judiciary employees who are currently holding the permanent title of Probation Officer or Probation Officer Bilingual, or employees who have an aggregate of one year of permanent service in the title of Investigator or Investigator Bilingual and possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any area, which includes or is supplemented by 24 credit hours in the behavioral or social sciences.

Applicants are required to submit a photocopy of their transcript at the time of application. If selected, an official college or university transcript is required prior to the start date.

Degrees conferred outside of the United States must be evaluated by a recognized evaluation service (NACES).

Selected candidates may be assigned to the Criminal, Family, or Probation Divisions.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $55,943.00 to $95,153.11 for Schedule A, and $55,943.00 to $91,346.99 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater.

Judiciary employees hired prior to October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals and Judiciary employees hired on or after October 31, 2015, are considered Schedule B.

Schedule

The selected candidate will be required to work one night per week during the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings.

Supplemental Information

  • Physical Ability: Some positions require climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending, and reaching. The selected candidate may need to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing 30 to 50 pounds and occasionally materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Driver’s License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties.
  • Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security regulations.
  • Background Check: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence.
  • Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year. Exemptions may be requested on the basis of hardship or employer critical need.
