About the Department

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of all students. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments and programs in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The Department of Earth Sciences supports significant research activities in a wide range of fields, including Geophysics, Volcanology, Climate science, Paleontology, Surface Processes, and Planetary Geology. The department is also home to the Oregon Hazards Lab and CRESCENT, the Cascadia Region Earthquake Science Center, both key partners in monitoring and understanding earthquake and volcano hazards and their impacts on communities in Oregon and Washington.

About the Role

The Department of Earth Sciences seeks to establish a pool of qualified candidates for Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications, Pro Tem Instructors may teach lower or upper division undergraduate Earth Science courses, including introductory sequences. Positions are limited-duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to a total of three years based on programmatic need, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower or upper division undergraduate Earth Science courses, including introductory sequences.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related area.
• One (1) year of post-secondary instructional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related area.
