PRN Speech Language Pathologist- Inpatient/Acute Rehab Unit

Job Summary

Plan and administer medically prescribed speech therapy programs for patients with speech, language, swallowing, or cognitive disorders to restore function and prevent disability. Assist patients in achieving their maximum potential and reintegrating into society.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review physician’s prescription, patient’s condition, and medical records to determine necessary speech therapy treatment.
  • Test and measure patient’s speech and language abilities, document findings, and develop or revise a comprehensive treatment plan.
  • Prepare a written evaluation report and treatment program based on patient data.
  • Collaborate with the patient and family to establish age-appropriate and lifestyle-focused goals and a discharge plan.
  • Evaluate treatment effects at various stages, adjust treatment plans, and prepare progress reports.
  • Evaluate patient and family learning needs and capabilities, and provide timely education.
  • Communicate with referring physicians and other practitioners to update treatment programs and integrate speech therapy with other healthcare aspects.
  • Discharge patients upon meeting goals or discontinuing medical necessity for skilled therapy, and prepare discharge reports.
  • Create provisions for continuing services and follow-up as needed.
  • Complete all documentation, including patient billing, in a timely manner.
  • Orient, instruct, direct, and supervise support personnel, including rehab aides, speech language pathology students, and volunteers.
  • Participate in referral development, marketing, policy and procedure development, and performance improvement initiatives related to speech therapy.
  • Plan and conduct lectures and training programs on speech therapy and related topics for colleagues, medical staff, students, and community groups.
  • Attend mandatory in-service education programs.
  • Comply with all applicable policies and procedures, including departmental and functional policies and procedures.
  • Handle patient information appropriately and comply with HIPAA regulations.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Master of Speech Language Pathology
  • Preferred: Masters or better in Speech Language Pathology

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: 0 Years Clinical Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
  • PREFERRED: 2 Years Clinical Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist

  • State Issued License - Yes
  • CPR - Yes
  • ACLS - No
  • PALS - No

Specialty Certification or Other Licensure

  • American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence
