PRN RN Pre-op and Recovery (PACU)

About the Role

As a PRN Registered Nurse - Recovery (PACU) at Panorama Eyecare, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert professional nursing care during the pre- and post-operative course. You'll assess, implement, and evaluate patient care, ensuring patients are prepared for discharge with the necessary education for themselves and their caregivers. Responsibilities

• Work with members of the healthcare team to provide optimal care throughout the patient’s surgical experience.
• Available to work 8-10 hour shifts every 4 weeks, Monday – Thursday.
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings.
• Maintain a friendly, positive, and caring attitude with all patients, physicians, and staff.
• Assist in patient education during all phases of their experience in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC).
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and monitor the use of all supplies; assist with inventory control.
• Document patient care appropriately.
• Maintain continuing education to meet state requirements and stay current with healthcare practices.
• Display professionalism at work and in the community as a representative of Panorama Eyecare.
• Identify actual and potential risks to patients and take action to minimize or eliminate risk and maximize safety.
• Assist with Pre-Op/Post-op phone calls.
• Communicate with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care in the ASC.
• Receive all patients in PACU, including MACs, pediatric, and adult generals after surgery; assess, evaluate, and document patient status continuously during recovery.
• Provide discharge instructions to patients and caregivers, verifying confirmation prior to discharge.
• Incorporate a sense of wellness by reuniting patients with their families as soon as feasible and encouraging self-care.
• Competently use NextGen EMR and prepare for emergency situations by knowing ASC Policies and Procedures.
• Monitor that Universal Precautions are maintained and complete all necessary documentation.
• Maintain cleanliness by wiping down gurneys, recliners, and medical equipment between patients with a germicidal solution; remake beds as needed.
• Accept other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Colorado RN state license.
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (complete PALS within 3 months of employment).
• Two years of pre-operative, recovery room, intensive care, or emergency room experience is desired.
• Previous experience in EMR preferred; experience in Ophthalmology Surgery is a plus.

Physical Demands

• Ability to stand/walk for long periods (up to 12 hours per day) in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and twist without restriction, pain, or discomfort.
• Ability to assist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchers.
• Ability to assist patients in and out of wheelchairs and push wheelchairs.
• Ability to assist with moving patients on and off the operating room stretcher.

Pay

Compensation for this role begins at $40-$44 an hour based on experience and certification.
