PRN RN - Orthopaedics

About the Role

Join Cleveland Clinic’s Mercy Hospital, a full member of the Cleveland Clinic Health System since 2021, offering 476 beds and a wide variety of medical specialties to Stark County communities. As an RN on the 5B Orthopaedic Unit, you will care for planned orthopaedic post-op surgical patients (hip and knee replacements, spine, and neck surgeries), orthopaedic injuries (falls and car accidents), and trauma patients transitioning from ICU (gunshots, wounds, stabbings, car accidents, and traumatic falls). This collaborative unit works with Orthopaedic Surgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and the trauma team. The 5B unit is known for community outreach and high caregiver retention, with many experienced caregivers having 8+ years of service.

In this role, you will assist in delivering exceptional care, interact directly with patients, families, and visitors, and provide healthcare education as needed. The Cleveland Clinic system offers professional development resources, including furthering education and online/in-person courses to enhance your skills. This PRN position involves variable nights, hours, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patients’ conditions.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN, or BSN program).
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
• External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience.
• Internal applicants: with less than two years’ experience may be considered post orientation/90-day probationary period with Chief Nursing Officer review and approval.
• Military RN experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for Light Work.

Pay

The pay range for new hires in this role is a minimum of $43.00 per hour to a maximum of $43.00 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices such as shift differentials or overtime, nor does it reflect the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings contributions).
