PRN Registered Nurse AM/PM Shifts with Weekend Availability

To provide high quality patient-focused health care services to all patients within the scope of practice through physician orders in accordance with all Texas state laws and regulations and company policies. Serves as point of contact for clinical staff at the assigned clinic and assists the physician/provider in monitoring ancillary staff in carrying out delegated orders and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical duties as an RN in accordance with physician orders and Texas state laws.
  • Assist the physician/provider in monitoring ancillary staff to ensure proper execution of delegated tasks.
  • Demonstrate exceptional technical skills including IV insertion, Foley catheter placement, NG tube insertion, splinting, wound care, and other clinical procedures.
  • Maintain excellent patient care and customer service in a high-pressure environment.
  • Work all shifts including day, evening, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Support and assist the team with basic facility maintenance such as emptying trash, unpacking linens, and keeping the facility tidy.
  • Perform laboratory duties including:
    • Learning and mastering immunoassay instrument procedures, including running calibrations, controls, reagents, detergents, and sample testing.
    • Completing simple daily immunoassay machine maintenance.
    • Training in the use of laboratory equipment and required documentation to comply with OSHA and CLIA standards.
    • Conducting patient interviews and documenting relevant information for lab-required paperwork.
    • Decanting urine specimens into sample tubes and performing immunoassay testing per protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Performing laboratory testing on patient samples, including daily controls and intermittent calibrations as required.
    • Executing corrective actions and routine maintenance of lab equipment as instructed.
    • Preparing reports of machine assays for inclusion in physician medical records.
    • Contacting equipment servicers, Lab Director, Clinical Consultant, or technical consultants for assistance as needed.
    • Disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste per OSHA guidelines.
    • Preparing lab billing sheets and supplying the billing company with patient insurance information.
    • Maintaining proper inventory of consumables, office supplies, and necessary paperwork.
    • Assisting in lab operations as directed by the Nurse Manager, including inventory management, accounting, and marketing.
    • Reporting any clinical, equipment, or business issues to the Nurse Manager immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current Texas RN Nursing License or Compact State License in good standing.
  • Two years of recent Emergency Room experience as an RN.
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
  • Pass background check(s).
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment while maintaining excellent patient care and customer service.
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with efficient time management skills.
  • Basic typing and computer proficiency, preferably experienced with Windows, Microsoft Office, and EMR/EPM systems.
  • Willingness to learn and perform labs as ordered by the physician.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; walk; sit; stoop; reach; balance; talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally transfer, lift, and/or move patients.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Exposure to hazards as described in materials safety data sheets and in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Works in a safety-conscious manner to ensure safe work practices and avoid risks to self or others.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Interacts tactfully and diplomatically with patients, families, visitors, and co-workers to provide a safe and caring environment.
  • Maintains a dependable attendance record and adheres to standards of cleanliness, grooming, hygiene, and dress code.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
