About the Role
Responsible for customer satisfaction, supervising and managing shift personnel and physical resources, ensuring accurate and timely dispensing of prescriptions, and exemplifying pharmaceutical care ideals. Facilitates patient care through review and processing of medication orders and timely distribution of medications. Communicates with other healthcare personnel to optimize medication management.
Requirements
- BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D
- Prior experience as a Health System Pharmacist (practicing in both distributive and clinical or decentralized duties) or completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 residency (or eligible)
- Current license (or eligible) to practice pharmacy in South Carolina (pharmacy extern will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist until license is obtained)
Responsibilities
- Follows attendance, dress, education (including continuing education), and safety policies
- Complies with regulatory agencies' requirements (e.g., DHEC, DEA, SC BOP)
- Compounds, prepares, labels, and dispenses medications (sterile and non-sterile) for all age groups according to accepted standards of practice
- Completes quality assurance checks of all medications prior to dispensing
- Manages out-of-stock situations and ensures optimal resource utilization
- Interprets medication orders, monitors drug regimens, and performs interventions when necessary
- Assists in training and orientation of new employees; precepts IPPE and APPE Advanced Institutional students
- Participates in departmental and hospital activities, including in-services, committees, and performance improvement initiatives
- Exercises professional judgment and discretion in communicating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure safe medication use and minimize errors
- Alerts or advises healthcare providers of drug-drug or food-drug interactions
- Identifies potential adverse drug reactions, documents, and intervenes as needed
- Completes documentation of medication errors and near-misses, and communicates appropriately with patients and prescribers
- Directs staff and encourages teamwork to ensure correct assignment of department workload duties
- Ensures customer satisfaction
