About the role
The Medical Lab Technician performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. They prepare specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures, operate automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment, perform quality control and assurance procedures, and record lab results in specified systems. They also follow all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.
Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures.
- Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures.
- Operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Performs quality control and assurance procedures.
- Records lab results in specified system.
- Fulfills all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards.
Requirements
- Education: Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Experience: At least three years of clinical experience.
- Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Internal candidates are required to submit and meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements.
- External candidates are required to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 6 months in position.
