Responsibilities
- Perform specimen collection, including patient preparation, if applicable, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens.
- Maintain regulatory compliance according to CLIA and CAP requirements.
- Participate in hospital and laboratory quality management programs and maintain records and documentation appropriately.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Adhere to quality control policies, document all quality control and other activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and equipment maintenance activities.
- Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or reporting of test results, or report issues to leadership.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
- Track and maintain inventory of supplies and reagents.
- Prepare chemicals and reagents for processing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Training completed and documented prior to performing testing or analyzing patient specimens.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology.
- Clinical Laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science.
- High School Graduate preferred.
- Job-related experience in clinical diagnostic lab.
