Job Description
Affords spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, focusing on their needs without agenda.
Conveys personalized care and ensures patients, families, and staff feel supported.
Encourages patients, families, and staff to find their spiritual center and utilize religious and culturally appropriate resources.
Makes rounds and checks in with clinical staff in assigned areas.
Responds appropriately to emergencies, verifying patient identity, notifying family, and coordinating with staff, family, and legal authorities.
Documents and charts pastoral activities in compliance with regulations.
Promotes coordination of care by participating in interdisciplinary conferences and contributing to comprehensive care plans.
Mentors chaplain interns and residents as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Operate within the guidelines of the profession, upholding standards of practice and competencies at all times
- Demonstrate the ability to provide effective spiritual care for patients, families, and staff through individual and group pastoral counseling, spiritual care, and emotional support
- Read, write, and follow instructions in English with excellent oral communication skills
- Show excellent customer service, organization, and people skills
- Maintain continuing education hours as outlined by ACPE, Inc.
- Have basic knowledge of computer applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Internet Explorer; experience with Cerner or other Electronic Healthcare Record applications
- Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Have personal commitment to God, emotional stability, sound physical health, and the ability to work under stress
- Be able to effectively relate to persons of diverse religious, educational, and cultural backgrounds and earn the respect of all team members
- Have knowledge of current counseling theories and practices, compliance with legal and ethical parameters based on the level of education and certification
- Communicate effectively in English to carry out job requirements
- Have knowledge of electronic medical record systems and ability to follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment when indicated
- Show respect and sensitivity for cultural and religious differences
Education
Master's degree in Master's of Divinity degree or other graduate theological degree (72-hour minimum) such as: pastoral care, spiritual care, etc.
Work Experience
1+ years of pastoral ministry or chaplaincy experience
Additional Information
Minimum of 4 units of ACPE, Inc. accredited CPE (Level 1 and Level 2 engaged)

- Ordained Minister (ORDM)
- Commissioned Minister Credential (ADM)
- Ecclesiastical Endorsement Certificate (CHAPLAIN)
- Board Certified Chaplain (BCC)
