About the role
Greets and receives patients, family members, donors, and visitors. Under general supervision performs a wide range of duties—including processing payments, coordinating facility/security issues, tours, resource referrals, assistance with fundraisers, light housekeeping, and meal preparation—to provide a positive experience for patients, family members, and visitors during hospitalization.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, family, visitors, donors, and volunteers upon arrival.
- Conducts guest check-ins, gives directions, processes payments, and provides available resources and facility tours.
- Maintains record-keeping functions (registration book, wait list, payment processing, and computer database) to ensure information is current.
- Recognizes signs of persons experiencing distress or personal trauma and provides support; refers to Hospital chaplain, care management, or other departments as needed.
- Serves as a resource for volunteers and other healthcare providers (e.g., doctors, care management, social workers).
- Contacts community resources and other pertinent sources on behalf of families.
- Provides information about the hospital and surrounding areas; addresses questions and concerns.
- Serves as the primary coordinator for overnight stays, including contacting LogistiCare for WV Medicaid patients and arranging other accommodations when space is unavailable.
- Notes important occurrences, visitor problems, facility issues, etc., on the daily log with time, date, and initials.
- Notifies appropriate management (Patient Advocate/Off Shift Coordinator/Manager/Director) of any accidents, problems, or unusual happenings.
- Coordinates activities to ensure a pleasant environment for family members by reporting maintenance needs and restocking supplies.
- Assists with food preparation, including picking up food donations, setting up and tearing down for meals, loading/unloading food, and serving in designated areas.
- Performs household chores such as loading/unloading dishwashers, cleaning refrigerators, kitchen cabinets, drawers, light laundry, etc.
- Provides access and maintains safety of the designated area by opening and closing the facility at scheduled times.
- Assists in maintaining patient satisfaction while keeping staff informed of potential problems.
- Provides clerical and administrative support as requested by the director.
- Maintains patient/family confidentiality at all times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of department-established training: Naloxone Training and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- 18 months of experience dealing with the public, with an emphasis on customer relations.
- Experience maintaining recordkeeping functions (registrations, waitlists, computer databases).
- One year of office experience, including working with computers, data entry, answering phones, and face-to-face customer interaction.
Skills
- Ability to work as part of a team with employees and volunteers.

- Computer proficiency.
- Strong communication, writing, telephone, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates maturity, accountability, consideration, and courtesy.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to push or pull in excess of 50 lbs. to move patients or objects.
- Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, and kneeling.
