Private Label Development Manager

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously.
  • Identify new product opportunities for development through trends in branded sectors, category reviews, line extensions, SPINS data, and competition checks.
  • Test products with a sensory panel and stakeholders to ensure viability for development.
  • Review vendor credentials to ensure all certifications are current and compliant with TFM standards.
  • Collaborate with supply chain partners to improve forecasting, PO timeliness, and in-stock position.
  • Manage import vendors and consolidate imports to optimize freight and timeline efficiencies.
  • Analyze and develop improvement processes and systems within Private Label.
  • Conduct bid processes, bid reviews, cost negotiations, and provide stakeholders with profit and loss information.
  • Lead creative briefs and label design/development for new products.
  • Oversee product distribution to distribution centers, communicating lead times, minimum order requirements, and proper palletization.
  • Work with marketing teams to provide product information for launch, including availability, attributes, images, promotional pricing, and placement in marketing materials.
  • Track and update progress of product development with Category Managers and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead weekly status updates and process/status meetings for all development projects.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years of experience in private label food development/management.
  • Knowledge of FDA/NLEA Food & Labeling guidelines.
  • Experience with contract negotiation.
  • Strong merchandising, product, and marketing skills.
  • Ability to identify global issues and communicate effectively within the organization.
  • Strong analytical, negotiating, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective listening, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for trade shows and store trips.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Experience in a retail environment or CPG industry.
  • Working knowledge of Excel and databases.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Deadline and results-driven mentality.
  • Strong business acumen related to profit and loss, ROI, and financial analysis.
  • Project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience using Nielsen and/or IRI.
  • Experience with MicroStrategy.
