About the role
The Print Operator I position is responsible for operating print equipment, maintaining print rollers and ink trays, and ensuring print quality on machines producing cups, containers, straws, and lids. This role operates under a night schedule from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with a $3 shift differential.
Responsibilities
- Perform timely checks to ensure only quality product is manufactured.
- Maintain print roller and ink tray areas and submit work orders for repairs or replacements.
- Ensure label printing equipment is in good working order.
- Print identification labels before starting a production job according to the print order specification sheet.
- Clean change-over parts and return them to the print storage area.
- Inform leadership immediately of any failure to meet quality standards to ensure corrective action is taken.
- Conduct quality tests to ensure product quality (weight, length, color, straightness).
- Check order to ensure correct printing materials are being used.
- Maintain an adequate supply of inks, labels, and bulk products.
- Comply with all safety rules, policies, procedures, and practices, including performing lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) of printing equipment when required.
- Fill out labor sheets at the end of each shift noting production and downtime using the company computer.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Lead, Team Supervisor, or Department Manager.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least one year experience as a print equipment operator.
- Previous machine operator experience in plastics or foam industry preferred.
Skills
- Basic computer skills.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to function independently.
- Read, write, and speak English.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Physical Demands
- Frequent use of production, manufacturing equipment and machinery including forklift, densifier, melter, and baler.
- Frequent movement/transportation of materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stationary for extended periods.
- Standing for long periods up to 8, 10, or 12 hours shifts.
- Walking, sitting, talking, walking, sitting; using hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, and controls; reaching with hands and arms; stooping, kneeling, crawling, or crouching.
Working Conditions
- Indoor manufacturing environment exposed to extreme heat that is not air conditioned.
- Exposure to loud noises and odors that may last for long periods or on a continual basis.
- Occasional airborne particles.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hairnet, hearing protection, and safety glasses with side guards at all times.
- Able to work an 8+, 10+, or 12+ hour shifts as designated.
- Able to work weekdays, weekends, and overtime as designated.
