About the role

A Principal UX Designer tackles difficult and complex creative problems, leading design strategy and the creative toolkit for multiple businesses or product lines. This role mentors and trains the design community while serving as an expert user of various design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Customer (or User) Focus
    • Deeply understands customer use cases and drives clarity where needed.
    • Analyzes competitor product sets and strategies to inform customer decisions.
    • Partners with data scientists to better understand customer needs.
  • Creative Problem Solving
    • Targets and solves the organization’s most complex ("wicked") problems.
    • Thoroughly analyzes briefs to ensure the right problem is being addressed.
    • Applies advanced critical and design thinking to identify innovative solutions.
    • Iterates and tests solutions to validate problem resolution.
    • Shares learnings to advance the organization’s creative direction.
  • Product Design
    • Leads and drives the UCD (User-Centered Design) vision for complex problems.
    • Explores future scenarios beyond the current release cycle.
    • Collaborates with UX Researchers to define user needs and set design principles.
    • Defines and evangelizes interaction patterns that shape the company’s UI brand.
    • Executes strategic user research to define the portfolio’s user experience.
    • Contributes to defining product strategy.
    • Communicates the importance of real customer engagement in product development.
  • Data-Driven Analysis & Testing
    • Extracts relevant data to develop unique UX research strategies.
    • Mentors other UX researchers in data-driven analysis and testing.
    • Identifies data gaps and introduces new analytical tools.
    • Oversees the testing of design work and presents findings to guide the organization.
  • Technical Skills
    • Expert knowledge of the organization’s tech stack.
    • Power user of design and prototyping software (e.g., Axure, Sketch, InVision).
    • Serves as a key point of contact for product and tech teams.
    • Conducts masterclasses to train other designers.
    • Produces pixel-perfect designs across all platforms.
    • Trials and introduces new tools to the organization.

  • Experience: 10–15 years of relevant experience (U.S. only).
  • Education: Specific requirements not specified.

Pay

U.S. national base pay range: $115,400 – $192,300. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations. This role is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
