About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. This role will establish and lead the strategic vision for inventory management across AWS's global infrastructure footprint.
Responsibilities
- Set the end-to-end inventory strategy, defining policies, service-level targets, inventory segmentation rules, and lifecycle management frameworks.
- Ensure that tactical day-to-day decisions across procurement, material planning, and capacity delivery align with AWS's business objectives.
- Bridge S&OP, supply chain planning, finance, demand forecasting, product, and engineering teams to translate complex trade-offs between working capital and fill rates into executable, scalable programs.
- Design, validate, and operationalize sophisticated models including multi-echelon inventory optimization, probabilistic safety stock calculations, lead-time variability analysis, and service-cost trade-off frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to reduce excess and obsolescence, lower carrying costs, and free working capital while protecting revenue through targeted, analytically-driven service-level adjustments.
- Select and configure optimization tools, own KPI and metric frameworks, and operationalize processes that scale with AWS's rapid growth and unique supply characteristics.
- Drive continuous improvement through experimentation, ROI tracking, exception management, and governance frameworks that embed guardrails ensuring inventory decisions remain optimal as demand patterns, lead times, and product mix evolve.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced analytics and optimization modeling.
- Experience in technology, cloud infrastructure, or high-growth environments with complex, multi-echelon supply chains.
- Deep expertise in probabilistic forecasting, lead-time variability modeling, and service-level optimization.
- Experience with inventory optimization tools and platforms (e.g., o9 Solutions, Kinaxis, Blue Yonder, or similar).
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, or other analytical programming languages.
- Track record of delivering significant working capital improvements (e.g., greater than 20 percent inventory reduction) while maintaining or improving service levels.
- Experience with AWS infrastructure, data center operations, or hardware supply chains.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or related quantitative field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in supply chain management, inventory optimization, or operations research.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing advanced inventory optimization models (i.e., multi-echelon, safety stock, service-level optimization).
- Demonstrated expertise in statistical modeling, optimization algorithms, and data analytics.
- Proven ability to influence senior leadership and drive strategic decision-making through data-driven insights.
