Principal Systems Engineer Product Owner

About the role
As a Product Owner at Raytheon, an RTX Business, you will support a premier program within the Mission Engineering and Platform & Security Integration (PSI) Agile Release Train (ART). You will lead backlog management, story refinement, and work prioritization while collaborating with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, Systems Engineers, and Software Engineers to deliver mission-critical capabilities. This position is contingent upon contract award and requires an active and existing TS/SCI security clearance on day one.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain the team-level product backlog, ensuring user stories are prioritized, refined, and ready for execution.
- Decompose capabilities, features, and customer requirements into actionable user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
- Validate completed work against acceptance criteria and approve completed stories.
- Partner with the Scrum Master, Product Manager, Systems Engineers, and Software Engineers to prepare upcoming sprints while maintaining a healthy, prioritized backlog.
- Coordinate cross-team dependencies with other Product Owners to ensure alignment across Agile Release Train (ART) teams.
- Support capability elaboration, backlog refinement, sprint planning, Program Increment (PI) Planning, sprint reviews, and technical program milestones.
- Incorporate systems engineering, integration, cybersecurity, and platform requirements into backlog priorities.
- Communicate backlog priorities, team progress, risks, dependencies, and release readiness to Product Management, Release Train Engineering (RTE), and program leadership.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance Agile execution, backlog quality, and delivery predictability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
- Experience serving as a Product Owner, Backlog Manager, Business Analyst, Systems Engineer, or similar Agile role supporting software development.
- Experience decomposing capabilities and features into user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria while maintaining Agile product backlogs.
- Experience working within Agile development environments, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and Program Increment (PI) Planning.
- Active and transferable U.S. government-issued TS/SCI security clearance required prior to start date.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Agile Release Trains (ARTs), or other large-scale Agile software development environments.
- Experience collaborating with Product Managers, Scrum Masters, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Experience translating customer, operator, or mission requirements into prioritized user stories and backlog items.
- Experience supporting systems engineering, mission capability development, digital engineering, or platform-based architectures.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional dependencies across integration, cybersecurity, platform, software engineering, and systems engineering organizations.
- Experience using Agile collaboration and backlog management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
- Experience supporting technical reviews, customer demonstrations, Program Increment (PI) Planning, release planning, and Agile program execution.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $107,500 – $204,500 USD. The range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
